Closed-Circuit Cooling Towers

CLOSED-CIRCUIT PROCESS COOLING

Closed-Circuit Cooling Towers for Process Applications

Evaluate fluid isolation, water quality, materials, approach, footprint and maintenance requirements before selecting a closed-circuit cooling-tower series.

Engineering Focus

When is a closed-circuit cooling tower worth evaluating?

A closed-circuit design is evaluated when the process fluid should remain isolated from ambient air, when loop cleanliness matters, or when contamination and water-quality control are important project constraints. The final choice still depends on flow, temperatures, wet-bulb condition, fluid properties, materials and site requirements.

Closed-Circuit Project Inputs

Process Fluid

Fluid type, concentration, flow rate, entering and leaving temperatures, allowable pressure drop and any corrosion or compatibility requirements.

Heat Rejection

Cooling capacity, design wet-bulb, approach target, spray-water temperature and the required operating range.

Materials and Water

Water chemistry, corrosion exposure, coil and casing material preference, treatment strategy, drift requirements and contamination controls.

Installation and Service

Available footprint, height, airflow clearance, sound limit, electrical supply, lifting access, inspection space and maintenance plan.

Closed-Circuit Configurations to Compare

Counterflow Closed Circuit

Compact counterflow layouts can be considered where vertical airflow arrangement and footprint need to be balanced against service access and duty.

Review SCC specifications

Crossflow Closed Circuit

Crossflow layouts can be considered where access, airflow arrangement and project layout make horizontal air movement practical.

Review SNC specifications

What a Useful RFQ Should Include

Include the project country, application, process fluid, water flow, hot and cold temperatures, design wet-bulb, site altitude, material preference, sound target, power supply and any P&ID, datasheet, layout or site photo.

Those inputs let the engineering team separate a real process-cooling opportunity from a generic equipment request and respond with a more useful selection path.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does closed circuit eliminate all water treatment?

No. The external spray-water loop still requires a project-appropriate water-management and treatment strategy. The process loop and spray loop should be reviewed separately.

Can closed circuit be used for any process fluid?

Suitability depends on the fluid, temperature, concentration, materials, pressure drop and heat-transfer requirements. Final selection follows engineering review.

Need a closed-circuit process-cooling review?

Send the fluid, duty and site conditions. Apex will review the data before confirming a suitable series or quotation path.

Process Cooling Tower Selection

Closed-circuit cooling towers are usually considered when the process fluid should stay cleaner, the system needs a closed-loop heat exchanger, or the project has tighter requirements for coil material, freeze protection, spray-water quality and maintenance access. Send the duty conditions and site constraints so Apex can review the process cooling tower configuration before quotation.

Closed-Loop Supplier Support

As a closed-loop cooling tower supplier, Apex can support process-cooling projects with coil material review, heat-transfer duty confirmation, export quotation support and model selection for factories, HVAC plants and industrial process systems. This helps procurement teams compare the technical basis before committing to a supplier quotation.

Engineering Review & Delivery Commitments

Reply within 24 hours; quotation within 2–3 working days after the required duty data is received.

Warranty: 16 months from shipment or 12 months from commissioning, whichever comes first.

Third-party inspection and factory witness testing welcome by appointment. Towers are designed per CTI methods; CTI-certified manufacturing is available on request for eligible series.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I use a closed-circuit cooling tower?

When the process fluid must stay isolated from ambient air, when loop cleanliness matters (for example data centers, compressors, furnaces and process loops), or when contamination risk must be reduced.

What is the difference between SCC and SNC?

SCC is a counterflow closed-circuit tower with a compact footprint. SNC is a crossflow closed-circuit tower that balances fluid isolation with easier service access and layout flexibility.

Can glycol or other fluids be used in the coil?

Yes, if specified. Tell us the fluid type and concentration, because fluid properties affect coil selection and capacity.

Are coils pressure tested?

Yes. A coil pressure test is part of the order QC for closed-circuit towers, and test records are supplied per order.

Can closed-circuit towers run on TSE make-up water?

Possibly. Send a current make-up water analysis (TSE or other source) and your water-treatment plan; coil and casing materials and blowdown are reviewed against it before quoting.

What data do you need for a closed-circuit quote?

Fluid type, flow, inlet and outlet fluid temperatures, design wet-bulb, site location, water analysis, materials preference and footprint limits.
